New South Wales can be divided into four broad regions:

  • The coastal regions in the east of NSW.
  • The Great Dividing Range, the highlands regions (elevated tablelands and Blue Mountains) which divide the east from west.
  • The slopes of the highlands, on the west of the Great Dividing Range (inland) forming the main agricultural region of NSW.
  • The desert and arid plains in the far west.
