At the Royal Australian Mint (RAM) all the nation’s coins are minted with the ability to produce over two million coins a day.
Coins produced here range from copper and nickel to gold and platinum. Having made over eleven billion coins to date, it continues to make coins not only for Australians to use but for other countries as well.
The coins and other metal objects, such as medallions and tokens commemorate Australian history and culture.
There are exhibits relating to the history of Australian coins as productions techniques. Tours can show you them being made at the mint, all the way to them rolling off the presses.
There are also excellent collections of coins past and present on display in the RAM’s vault.
