The Walker family played a significant role in the development of Sydney and in the history of Australia. When Thomas Walker died, he left money for a hospital to be established in Concord West, Sydney. Named Thomas Walker Convalescent Hospital, it was built in 1893.
This Edwardian estate is now Dame Eadith Walker Convalescent Hospital, originally established in their Victorian Italianate mansion. Originally the family home, the estate consists of an entire original 1790s land grant. The mansion, the stables and coach house were designed by Edmund Blacket.
