World Heritage

The Blue Mountains National Park is on the World Heritage List for its diverse flora and natural landscapes. You can explore this wonderful park with all its grandeur - its proximity to Sydney (about 1.5 hours west of the city centre) and easy access make it popular attraction with visitors to Sydney from Australia and overseas.

The mountains are not volcanic in origin, they are sandstone escarpments pushed up more than 20 million years ago and weathered by the elements and rivers to create the deep ravines, expansive valleys and high ridges you see today.

You can spot parrots, lorrikeets and cockatoos amongst the trees. There are numerous Blue Mountains tours available, including eco tours and Aboriginal cultural tours.

Resorts

Resorts and Villages are scattered along the Great Western Highway, which traverses the mountains east to west. The other popular way to cross the mountains from Sydney is the Bell Road, further north.
